A Field Trip to Remember
On Tuesday the 26th of September, 56 students went to Everett to be participants in the plane crash drill. Approximately 6 of those students were crossroads students. Talk about an experience! Walking into a hangar at an airport with one really long table that went down all the way down the hanger and a little table by the door with muffins and orange juice. These people rushing around having you sign in and instantly have you sit with these makeup artists. . Handing out these lanyards with a tag on them; saying what color you are categorized as. “You have,” …
Green- Someone who is able to walk talk and listen to orders.
Yellow- Someone who can talk but can't walk or is paralyzed.
Red- Someone who is near death and is in critical condition if they don’t get assistance right away they may die
Black- they're dead.
Walking around in confusion after you get your card and some food makeup artists were calling for any students to come get your makeup done and putting bruises and prosthetics on all of us students according to our cards. Bloody noses, broken noses, scratches, bruises, and large cuts.
After you got your makeup done you were drove out to a plane where you began the process of the drill. Loaded onto the plane, smoke began to fill the plane; note that this is fake smoke. Last minute touch ups were done with makeup artists running around spraying blood absolutely everywhere ! On faces of students and on the floors. Truthfully it gave me some anxiety because it was so realistic. Yet it was really fascinating to see how all the firefighters came together to work together to save the victims.
Firefighters came into the smoke filled plane demanding victims who can walk and or talk to exit the plane as soon as possible. I was one of the Victims who could walk so I walked made my way out of the plane. I can't explain the feeling I saw all the officers, firefighters, ambulances, firetrucks, and so much more . It was a possible feeling of relief. I have never witnessed anything so amazing. I know it wasn’t real but it made me feel safe in a way. Walking over to the side of the runway, turning around to see all the firefighters going in and out of this plane holding people and bringing them down out of the plane on stretcher like boards. This went on for about an hour.
Then being directed to colored tarps. Red, Yellow, and Green; now that you know what the colors mean i'm sure you can put together how the people were categorized, and put where they needed to be so the paramedics could care for them. After students were taken to the “Hospital” And or lifted by the helicopter that flew right over us. We were loaded onto buses to take us back to the hanger to take off our makeup and clean up and have some sandwiches and relax a bit. We crammed back onto the bus and headed back to school. It was an amazing day. I wish I could relive it.
